Job summary

Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque seeks an R&D Laboratory Support Technologist to join the polymer materials characterization and mechanical testing team.

The successful candidate will work with staff to apply DSC, TMA, TGA, DMA and rheological techniques to characterize organic materials (encapsulants, adhesives, gels, coatings, and composites) and perform mechanical testing on polymers and structures.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a science, engineering, or engineering technology discipline.
• Ability to work onsite at the laboratory facility.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.

Responsibilities

• Perform materials characterization including DSC, TMA, TGA, DMA and rheological testing.
• Conduct mechanical testing using universal testing machines and novel test designs.
• Design and execute structural and materials tests and validate material models.
• Perform basic organic chemistry and polymer synthesis tasks.
• Maintain, calibrate, and adapt instrumentation as needed.
• Support laboratory safety, ES&H, and related documentation.
• Lead small research efforts and coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
• Handle chemicals safely per hazards procedures and maintain records.
• Work in a dynamic team and manage time with multiple priorities.
