Job summary

TalentBurst is seeking a Technologist for Research & Development in Wilmington, DE for a 9-month contract. The role focuses on resin-based parts fabrication, analytical testing, and documentation.

You will analyze results, characterize materials using spectroscopy, and learn polymer characterization instrumentation, while maintaining safety and inventory compliance. Qualifications

• BS in Chemical Engineering, Materials, Chemistry or equivalent experience.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Knowledge or working experience with polymer characterization instrumentation is preferred.
• Ability to learn a wide variety of testing methods and instruments.
• Experience with mechanical testing equipment is preferred.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to prioritize, organize, and plan responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Independently fabricate parts from resins including mixing, milling, pressing and sintering, monitor, and document experiments using a laboratory notebook.
• May perform organic reactions including reaction system assembly and product work-up with documentation.
• Analyze results, detect erroneous outcomes, and suggest next steps.
• Characterize material structure and performance using spectroscopy (NMR, IR) and learn polymer characterization instrumentation (DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, etc.).
• Document and report all experimental data; present findings at team meetings.
• Operate Windows-based computer systems; troubleshoot and calibrate instruments; prepare manuals and SOPs.
• Follow client safety policies; support process safety management and maintain laboratory safety documentation.
• Order and manage supplies; maintain inventory of chemicals, resins, and samples; coordinate outside testing and shipping per DOT rules.
• Limited lifting of lab equipment (reactor, glassware, etc.).

Technologist - Research & Development

Location: Wilmington, DE

Duration: 9 Months

Main job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Independently making parts from resins, including mixing, milling, pressing and sintering, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system. May asked conducting organic reactions, including reaction system assembly, monitoring, product work-up/analysis/characterization, and experimental documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook system.
• Analyze results, recognize erroneous or unexpected outcomes, and make suggestions for a path forward.
• Characterize material structure and performance, using various spectroscopic techniques, including, NMR, IR
• Become familiar with and learn polymer characterization instrumentation such as DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, Impact and Tensile Testing.
• Properly document and report all experimental data. Present findings and results at team meetings.
• Ability to use windows-based computer systems.
• Troubleshoot and calibrate instruments. Author and prepare instrument manuals and SOPs.
• Participate and follow all client safety policies and best practices. Support process safety management (PSM) by maintaining laboratory safety documentation.
• Order and purchase supplies when needed. Maintain chemical, resin and experimental sample inventory.
• Coordinate outside laboratory testing, including shipping samples following proper DOT rules and regulations.
• Required limited lifting of lab equipment (Reactor, glassware, etc.).
