Job summary

Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cambridge is seeking a Plumbing Supervisor to lead a team of plumbers, coordinate maintenance, and supervise 24/7 operations to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable water and plumbing services across the campus.

The role requires a MA Master Plumber license with supervisory experience, strong knowledge of HVAC-related plumbing, budgeting skills, and the ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays.

Qualifications

• Massachusetts Master Plumber license with 5 years of supervisory plumbing experience.
• Knowledge of building cooling and heating systems related to plumbing.
• Experience with underground water, sewage, and steam distribution.
• Experience interfacing with City Inspection Services and regulatory programs.
• Facility management experience in an educational environment.
• Budgeting and business management experience.
• Experience in union environment with labor relations.
• Proficient computer literacy (email, internet, LAN).
• Able to work any shift including weekends/holidays.
• Supervise and maintain MIT plumbing facilities 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

• Sets standards of performance and service and ensures the quality of team work and adherence to plumbing code.
• Schedules preventive maintenance work orders.
• Responsible for the timely completion of team work.
• Provides leadership and ongoing supervision to the Plumbing team.
• Provides technical expertise to assist team members in their work.
• Identifies training needs and resources.
• Communicates pertinent information to fellow supervisors and customers.
• Responds to emergencies and is available for off-hour responses.
• Provides weekend supervisory coverage on a rotating basis.
• Plans for special events and develops short/long-range projects.
• Estimates labor requirements for work orders and maintains documentation.
