Job summary

The University of Utah is seeking a Plumber III to support campus-wide utility operations. This role is hands-on and focuses on water distribution, requiring a Journeyman or better license and, if needed, obtaining a Water Distribution Grade 4 certification.

You will install, inspect and maintain plumbing systems, review blueprints and codes, mentor apprentices, and ensure safety and compliance across campus facilities. Monday–Friday schedule with potential 4/10s and on-call rotations.

Qualifications

• 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience.
• Plumber III requires 3+ years of related experience.
• Journeyman or better plumber's license.
• Must possess a valid driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Operate, maintain and repair campus utility systems (culinary water, sewer, storm drain, secondary water, and natural gas).
• Operate utility drain cleaning and inspection equipment.
• Develop understanding of underground utilities, their operation and sequences.
• Identify ways to improve physical condition and operational reliability of utility systems.
• Train and develop apprentice plumbers as assigned and seek development opportunities.
• Ensure all work complies with best practices, university policies, codes and laws.
• Cross-train with other utility teams for flexibility and reliability.
• Complete training and other administrative requirements properly and timely.
• Promote a culture of safety by example and adherence to safety requirements.
• Communicate professionally with University faculty, staff and students.
