Job summary

BMW Group in the United States seeks a senior controls engineer to lead design and support for PLC, SCADA, and control systems across production lines. You will drive standards, collaborate with IT, and implement improvements to uptime and safety.

The role requires deep Siemens TIA Portal/S7 experience and hands-on development of HMIs. You will work with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and line builders to ensure consistent BMW practices and robust documentation.

Qualifications

• BA/BS degree in IT or engineering (Electrical/Computer/Software preferred) or AA/AS in a related technical field with 2 years of controls experience.
• 5+ years of professional technical experience in a highly automated manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
• 5+ years of experience programming/troubleshooting PLC applications for manufacturing processes (Siemens TIA Portal/S7 preferred).
• 5+ years with PLCs, Communication BUS, HMIs, safety PLCs, drives, motors, schematics, and control components.
• 5+ years of MS Office skills (Word, Excel).

Responsibilities

• Leads and provides technical design support for PLC, controls, and SCADA systems implementation.
• Collaborates to develop design standards and specifications for PLCs and control systems.
• Plans improvements to positively affect process capability, uptime, and reliability.
• Participates in cross-functional project teams supporting PLC, control systems, and SCADA activities.
• Provides technical support during introduction of new models and for issue resolution in production.
• Ensures proper operation and documentation delivery from line builders and integrators.
• Interfaces with IT to ensure efficient operation of department SCADA systems.
• Develops solutions to improve equipment safety, efficiency, and cost.
• Develops HMI and production monitoring systems for line control and maintenance information.
• Coordinates with suppliers to ensure BMW standards are used consistently.
• Maintains user and support documentation and adheres to VPS principles and 5S safety.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
