Job summary

UKG is seeking a Lead Software Development Engineer to join the Shared Services team within Employee Solutions & Experience (ESE) to advance quality engineering through scalable automation and AI-enabled capabilities.

The role focuses on building reusable automation, guiding development teams, and mentoring engineers to raise testing standards and release confidence across UKG platforms.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, quality engineering, DevOps, SRE, or related field with leadership.
• Strong programming proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, C#, or a comparable language with automation framework design experience.
• Hands-on experience with Playwright, Selenium WebDriver, or similar browser automation technologies.
• Experience with CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins, and knowledge of Git workflows.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, cloud services, and observability practices.
• Hands-on experience using Claude Code, Codex, or comparable AI coding assistants for substantial engineering work.
• Ability to govern and safely manage AI-generated code and autonomous workflows.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable automation frameworks, shared services, libraries, and developer tools.
• Develop capabilities for browser, API, integration, contract, performance, accessibility, and end-to-end testing.
• Define automation standards for architecture, quality, testability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Integrate quality checks and release validations into CI/CD pipelines to improve speed and stability.
• Add observability into automation platforms with logs, metrics, traces, dashboards, and alerts.
• Partner with development, DevOps, SRE, security, architecture, and release teams to improve delivery quality and reduce duplication.
• Mentor engineers and testers in software development, automation, DevOps, and AI-assisted engineering.
