Job summary

Sherwin-Williams is seeking a Plant Chemist to improve product quality and production efficiency. The role leads the Manufacturing Hygiene program, identifies improvement areas, and implements projects to ensure hygiene standards are met.

Responsibilities include addressing process and quality issues, testing paints and materials, coordinating test batches, and guiding lab technicians. A STEM degree and at least one year in QA/R&D are required; Six Sigma/Lean exposure is preferred.

Qualifications

• > Must be at least eighteen (18) years old.
• > Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now or in the future.
• > Must have an associate’s degree or higher in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) field.
• > Must have at least one year of work experience in a Quality or R&D function or have completed a Sherwin-Williams Development Program in a Quality or R&D function.

Responsibilities

• Identify process and quality problems, determine systematic root cause, and recommend corrective action
• Reduce number of distressed batches and improved hygiene results
• Perform routine paint and raw material testing as needed
• Assist in determining disposition of distressed batches and identifying rework opportunities
• Identify process and formula changes needed for successful manufacturing of existing formulas
• Monitor new production and communicate potential problems to appropriate departments
• Coordinate test batches with production scheduling
• Maintain local formulas in formulation system
• Ensure that all data is entered into the hygiene database to maintain compliance to hygiene monitoring standards
• Provide support and guidance to lab technicians
• Support training of new employees
• Lead and participate in continuous improvement projects
