Job summary

Hargrove Engineers & Constructors seeks a veteran Lead Mechanical/Piping Designer in Pasadena, TX. You will oversee a design team, deliver complex piping systems and equipment layouts, and ensure on-time, within-budget delivery with high quality.

Strong leadership, deep CAD experience, and prior supervision of draft staff are essential. The role emphasizes collaboration across disciplines, development of installation documents, and cost/schedule control.

Qualifications

• Knowledge and application of piping materials.
• Design of moderately complex process and utility piping systems.
• Knowledge and application of piping supports and restraints.
• Flexibility analysis of piping system.
• Valve sizing, use and application.
• Good design practices for sizing piping systems.
• Sizing of compressible fluid piping systems.
• Identify need and specification of steam traps and liquid drainers.
• Identify need and specification of safety valves and devices.
• Select piping specialty items given design criteria.
• Draft P&IDs and GA’s.
• Design of piping equipment and inline instrumentation.
• Familiarity with construction bulk materials.
• Create accurate installation documents from vendor drawings.
• Understand work flow between disciplines.
• Understand schedules and information for deliverables.
• Estimate completion of tasks.
• Develop installation specifications with review.
• Develop construction cost estimates and schedules.
• Apply company CAD drafting standards.
• Lead a small team to deliver commitments.
• Deliver presentations of services.
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD and MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct a team of designers as lead designer.
• Deliver mechanical and piping work on time and within budget.
• Provide technical guidance to junior drafters.
• Coordinate with staff and discipline lead.
• Produce installation specifications with engineering review.
• Mentor subordinates and plan training.
• Check calculations for accuracy and codes compliance.
• Determine construction quantities and cost estimates.
• Delegate work and monitor progress for quality.
• Lead cross-discipline coordination and planning.
