Job summary

University of California, Merced is seeking a Physics Lab Supervisor to oversee instructional prep facilities, laboratories, and staff. You will ensure high quality undergraduate lab experiences, collaborate with faculty and TAs, and manage safety, budgets, and equipment maintenance.

Strong knowledge of physics concepts and lab equipment, plus experience in training staff and students, is essential. This onsite role requires coordination across multiple lab spaces and effective problem solving.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Physics or related field (Preferred).
• Advanced degree in Physics or related field (Preferred).
• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent (Required).
• Bachelor's degree + 4 years of lab support experience (Preferred).
• Master’s degree + 2 years of lab support experience (Preferred).

Responsibilities

• Lab Development & Training: develop and implement new or improved lab experiments, run experiments, research equipment, schedule content each semester.
• Supervisory Duties: oversee lab staff, inventory, and safety training.
• Lab Development & Training: train TAs on physics concepts, procedures, safety, and troubleshooting.
• Laboratory Duties: revise and maintain lab protocols, keep hard/soft copies up-to-date.
• Purchasing/Receiving: manage materials, update expenses, and inventory.
