Job summary

Coherent is seeking a senior photonics-focused engineer to develop concepts for next-generation optical interconnects and PICs. You will design high-speed photonic components, optimize RF interactions, and implement WDM building blocks for 400G-per-lane systems.

You will collaborate with foundries and fabrication teams to ensure manufacturability, perform simulations, and drive tapeouts using established silicon photonics design flows.

Qualifications

• PhD or MS in Electrical Engineering, Photonics, Applied Physics, Optics, or related field.
• Significant experience in integrated photonics or silicon photonics design and development.
• Experience with high-speed electro-optic devices and RF structures.
• Experience with electromagnetic and RF simulation tools such as HFSS, CST, ADS, or similar.
• Experience with photonic simulation and design tools such as Lumerical, Tidy3D, RSoft, or equivalent.
• Experience designing WDM components or wavelength-selective photonic circuits.
• Experience taking PIC designs through layout and tapeout using foundry PDKs.

Responsibilities

• Develop photonic device and PIC concepts for next-gen optical interconnects and high-speed systems.
• Design and optimize high-speed photonic components and subsystems for 400G links and co-packaged optics.
• Work on interaction between photonic devices and RF interfaces including modulators and detectors.
• Develop WDM building blocks and architectures such as filters, multiplexers, and resonant devices.
• Translate system requirements into practical photonic device specifications.
• Evaluate tradeoffs among bandwidth, loss, power, footprint, manufacturability, and scalability.
• Use optical, RF, and EM simulations to model device performance.
• Tape out complex PICs using foundry PDKs and silicon photonics design flows.
