Job summary

Liebherr Mining Equipment Newport News Co. is seeking a Technical Lead for Perception and Onboard Planning Systems in Newport News, VA. You will direct development of perception and planning algorithms for autonomous mining trucks and integrate them with hardware and software.

The role requires strong knowledge of autonomous perception, real-time embedded systems, ROS, and C++ programming. A MS/ME or a BS with extensive experience is expected, with travel up to 30% for customer and supplier

Qualifications

• Master of Science or Master of Engineering with 6–8 years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering with 8–10 years of experience.
• Experience with autonomous perception or onboard planning systems is required.
• Knowledge of perception, pose, and self-localization/mapping concepts.
• Ability to read and write specifications and safety-related documents.

Responsibilities

• Directs and participates in development of perception and planning systems for autonomous haul trucks.
• Researches onboard system solutions to support autonomous operations.
• Develops project plans and associated documentation.
• Evaluates architectures and supporting hardware/software components.
• Writes specifications for hardware and software development.
• Plans timelines, estimates time and cost for projects.
• Tracks milestones and collaborates with engineers, designers, and production staff.
