Job summary

Insight Global is seeking an experienced Lead Product Researcher to oversee payroll tax research supporting onboarding and payroll tax calculation products. The role monitors federal, state, and local regulatory changes, assesses impact, and translates findings into clear requirements for technical teams.

The ideal candidate has deep payroll tax expertise, strong leadership skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience with U.S. federal, state, and local payroll taxes.
• Strong knowledge of payroll tax calculations, withholding, unemployment taxes, wage bases, and multi-jurisdiction taxation.
• Ability to translate regulatory information into product requirements or technical documentation.
• Leadership, mentoring, or work-review experience.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with limited direction and contribute quickly.
• Experience in a deadline-driven payroll or tax environment.

Responsibilities

• Research and interpret federal, state, and local payroll tax laws and regulatory changes.
• Determine how regulatory changes affect payroll calculations, onboarding forms, and product functionality.
• Translate findings into clear functional specifications, use cases, and calculation documentation.
• Lead, mentor, and review the work of a small research team.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts, quality assurance, customer support, and other stakeholders.
• Maintain supporting documentation for research conclusions and product updates.
• Communicate complex tax requirements clearly to technical and nontechnical audiences.
• Support customer discussions regarding regulatory interpretations when needed.
• Manage multiple authorities, priorities, and deadlines during high-volume periods.
