Position: Lead Patient Care Technician

We are hiring at ANCC Magnet designated UPMC Passavant for our Inpatient Rehab Unit at the McCandless location.

The Lead Patient Care Technician plays a vital role in the UPMC Inpatient Patient Care Support Career Ladder, with opportunities for growth and advancement. Salary and title will be based on education and experience.

Our full-time Lead PCTs typically work Monday to Friday, 5:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Specific hours will be discussed during the interview. Hired candidates may need to attend up to two weeks of orientation at the McCandless campus of Passavant, which includes classroom and unit-based training.

Responsibilities:
  • Support departmental changes and initiatives.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks and view challenges positively.
  • Maintain awareness of how behavior impacts department efficiency.
  • Participate in projects and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform core nursing assistant duties, including ADLs, point of care testing, specimen collection, and simple dressings, among others. All competencies must be achieved.
  • Report equipment malfunctions promptly.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and team members.
  • Build professional, respectful relationships.
  • Assist with unit activities such as responding to call lights, delivering meals, and patient transport.
  • Seek feedback and identify learning needs.
  • Take initiative to improve skills and knowledge.
  • Collaborate with the team and participate in self-review processes.
  • Communicate clearly with healthcare team members.
  • Understand and respect cultural diversity and address workplace issues like horizontal violence and impairment.
  • Prioritize safety for patients and staff.
  • Develop productive relationships and demonstrate accountability and enthusiasm.
  • Provide patient care, including assisting with procedures and activities of daily living.
  • Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies as needed.
  • Report patient status changes to the RN and provide patient and family instruction under supervision.
  • Apply, monitor, and remove restraints following protocols.
  • Adhere to all policies regarding patient care and confidentiality.
  • Follow safety procedures and document care accurately.
  • Complete assigned tasks efficiently and perform clerical duties as required.
  • Operate in accordance with organizational competencies and behaviors.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
