Job summary

Buro Happold in Washington, DC is seeking an Associate Plumbing & Fire Protection Engineer with aviation focus to join our hybrid team.

As primary discipline lead on medium to large aviation projects, you will coordinate with clients and design teams, manage proposals, and oversee project execution while ensuring quality and schedule.

The role requires 8+ years in plumbing and FP, 5+ aviation experience, a relevant degree, and strong leadership and communication skills.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of plumbing and fire protection engineering experience.
• 5+ years of airport/aviation experience.
• Ability to serve as primary Plumbing & Fire Protection discipline lead on aviation projects.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
• P.E. licensure is desired.
• Experience using Revit, HydroCAD, and/or HASS.
• Broad design knowledge with US and international projects.
• Ability to run projects successfully.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.
• Corporate membership in a relevant professional institution.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

• Communicate directly with clients.
• Serve as primary Plumbing & Fire Protection discipline lead on medium to large aviation projects.
• Organize technical and financial proposals for new work.
• Manage workload of Project Discipline Engineers and Technicians, including QA.
• Take responsibility for concept and preliminary engineering solutions for detailed design and prepare technical specifications.
• Monitor the financial performance of jobs.
• Set up and manage job/resource planning and expenditure.
• Keep senior staff informed of important decisions and client objectives.
• Ensure practices and policies align with client interests and current codes.
