Job summary

Bath Iron Works in Bath, ME is seeking a Front Line Supervisor, Outside Machinist to lead a team of mechanics across shifts. You will supervise safe ship operations during sea trials and coordinate with pipe, machinery, electrical, and vent trades.

The role emphasizes safety, quality, and meeting milestones within the BIW BOS framework, reporting to the Trade Superintendent. Strong communication and priority management are essential to success.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of 1 year experience in machinery related field.
• Solid understanding of shipbuilding.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage conflict.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities.

Responsibilities

• Champion BIW safety culture and enforce all safety standards and procedures across operations.
• Monitor the quality of work and ensure first-time quality through proper oversight and training.
• Coordinate Plan of the Week (POW) execution and align resources with operational needs.
• Track the status of preventative maintenance workloads and work orders to enable intervention for planned downtime.
• Provide technical guidance and support to mechanics and ensure accountability of tasks and goals.
• Mentor mechanics by developing their technical knowledge and ability to execute daily objectives.
• Participate in BOS principles and productivity improvements.
• Focus on quality of trade workmanship and sustainment of improvements.
