Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) seeks an experienced opto-mechanical engineer to design and lead solutions for optical systems across terrestrial, airborne or space platforms.

The role advances engineering initiatives, guides staff, and interfaces with customers and government agencies as a prime technical contact. A DoD clearance is required and travel may be needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor, master or PhD in engineering with 4+ years (bachelors) or 2+ years (masters) experience.
• Experience in opto-mechanical engineering or optical technologies.
• Understanding of optical integration techniques.
• Ability to plan, schedule and coordinate workloads and lead projects.
• Strong communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
• Willingness to travel and work extended hours.

Responsibilities

• Develops innovative technical solutions to maintain optical performance of hardware.
• Provides focal point for technical communication with management and customers.
• Documents work through drawings, presentations, analysis and test reports; uses CAD.
• Provides expert guidance and consulting to staff on complex problems.
• Anticipates future engineering needs and required modifications.
• May assume technical and engineering responsibility for identifiable projects.
• Directs activities of design staff and may lead a team.
• Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Observes laws, regulations and safety in business operations.
