Job summary

General Atomics is seeking a senior engineer to lead development of space-based optical communication payloads and networks within GA-EMS. The role requires deep expertise in space optical communications, RF/optical networks, and systems engineering, with leadership responsibilities and interaction with senior leadership and government customers.

The selected candidate will influence architectural decisions, mentor staff, and represent GA-EMS in national venues.

Qualifications

Bachelor's, Master's or PhD in engineering or related technical discipline with progressive experience.
Expert understanding of satellite networks, communication protocols, optical/RF waveforms and modulation, free-space optical comms, RF photonics and electronics.
Space-optical communication experience required and track record applying theory to real-world problems.

Responsibilities

Conceptualizes and articulates innovative resolutions to highly technical engineering problems.
Leads planning and oversight of implementation of engineering solutions.
Advises on planning for implementation including strategic objectives and timetables.
Allocates resources and directs technical staff to achieve objectives.
Represents technical capabilities to national audiences through presentations and papers.
