Job summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) seeks a Space Mechanical Chief Engineer to guide spacecraft and payload development, leading cross-architecture trade studies and delivering complex mechanical designs for space and military applications.

You will oversee an engineering staff, manage feasibility studies, and support test activities on- and off-site, while advancing mission architectures and propulsion system concepts. A Top-Secret DoD clearance is required.

Qualifications

• Typically requires a bachelor’s, master’s or PhD in engineering or related field and progressive engineering experience.
• Experience leading teams in complex enterprise-level system engineering and integration of systems-of-systems.
• Expertise in satellite constellation establishment, maintenance and contingency resolution; attitude control system dynamics and space environmental effects.
• Experience leading failure review boards and acting as technical reviewer on program design reviews.
• Experience leading technical teams through challenging engineering problems in schedule-critical environments.

Responsibilities

• Support cross-architecture trade studies and common interoperable architectures across mission space.
• Lead engineering staff in analysis, investigation, and resolution of engineering problems.
• Lead new IRAD programs that support long-term mission architectures.
• Develop and integrate enterprise concepts, best practices, and standardization.
