Job summary

Blykalla is seeking a Nuclear Security Engineer to lead physical protection design for our lead-cooled SMR for the US market. You will embed security-by-design from the earliest stages and build the security case to support DOE authorization.

Responsibilities include DBT analysis, system design, and coordination with DOE/NRC interactions. You will work within our Nuclear Engineering & Safety function, collaborating with licensing, reactor design, and deployment teams, with travel to Stockholm

Qualifications

• U.S. citizenship required for eligibility for a DOE access authorization.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L access authorization and to access Safeguards Information and UCNI.
• Master's degree in engineering, physics, security systems engineering, or a related field.
• 5–10 years in nuclear security or security engineering for nuclear facilities.
• Experience with DBT analysis, vulnerability assessment, target-set identification, and physical protection system design.
• Working knowledge of DOE and IAEA security standards and 10 CFR Part 73.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical-writing skills.
• Fluency in English, written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain physical protection design and DBT assessment for a lead-cooled SMR.
• Identify vital areas, target sets, and security-related structures per defense-in-depth.
• Design physical protection systems — detection, delay, response; analyze vulnerabilities.
• Support categorization of HALEU fuel and coordinate with material control & accountability.
• Prepare physical protection plans, security analyses, and DOE/NRC submittals.
• Handle Safeguards Information and UCNI appropriately.
• Stay current with security methodologies and international standards.
