The highest level of the non-Engineer degreed technical support role job classification is the Lead Technologist. This job is not part of a standard progression. Lead Engineering Technologists provide technical expertise to solve complex problems, and utilize the leadership skills necessary to oversee governance of specific program areas, often on a fleet-wide basis. Incumbents engage in strategic oversight and management of work in a specific area of expertise, with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to have advanced skills and have the ability to work independently. This position will serve as the lead utility representative responsible for managing the development, implementation, and long-term governance of alternative treatments for Risk-Informed Safety Class 3 (RISC-3) structures, systems, and components (SSCs). This role requires a strong ownership mindset, the ability to act as an intelligent customer for vendor-developed technical products, and the judgment to balance regulatory compliance, engineering rigor, equipment reliability, and business value while maintaining reasonable confidence that RISC-3 SSCs remain capable of performing their safety-related functions under design basis conditions, including seismic and environmental conditions and effects throughout their service life.
Typically, an office environment with some work on site at a Nuclear Power Plant facility.
Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way. Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 2 full workdays per regular workweek. Onsite work location can reside at any Duke Energy Nuclear plant or corporate office. This position may be required to have Emergency Response Organization (ERO) responsibilities which could include callouts with a defined response time to the site and an on-call duty rotation requiring the employee to be Fit for Duty. Required to wear personal protective equipment (hardhat, safety glasses, fall protection, etc.) as needed. Additional hours expected as workload/business need requires. Occasional overnight travel. Travel Requirements 15-25%.
