Duke Energy’s 11 operating nuclear reactors make Duke a clean energy leader in the electricity generation industry. Duke operates both pressurized water and boiling water reactors. Duke maintains a variety of PRA models. Depending on the plant, these models include Internal Event, Internal Flood, Fire, High Winds, Seismic, and External Flood. Duke Energy is seeking highly motivated candidates at the Engineer III and Senior Engineer levels to join the PRA Team. This team is responsible for maintaining Duke’s PRA models and risk-informed applications using fault tree and data analysis (Phoenix,) Human Reliability Analysis (HRA Calculator,) accident analysis (MAAP) among others. Duke Energy is headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, a growing and vibrant city in the Carolinas. Nuclear Engineer III is the intermediate level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of probabilistic risk assessment with general supervision. The successful candidate is expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
Senior Nuclear Engineer is the career level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Employees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of probabilistic risk assessment with little supervision. The successful candidate is expected to have advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
The incumbent must meet the minimum ANSI requirements for this position identified within the scope of Nuclear Operating Fleet Administrative Procedure AD-LS-ALL-0011, Confirmation of Regulatory Guide 1.8 Personnel Qualifications Note: This posting is for one open position. Dependent on relative experience, the level to which a candidate is aligned is outlined below.
The preferred location is at our Charlotte Corporate office or McGuire or Catawba Nuclear plants; however, the selected candidate may sit at other applicable nuclear sites where space permits.
Hybrid Mobility Classification – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees must live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility, not greater than 50 miles one way.
Employees are expected to report to their assigned Duke Energy facility as required and directed by their manager, on average 3 full workdays per regular workweek. Some work in the plant or travel to industry conferences is expected.
