Job summary

Howard County Public School System (HCPSS) seeks a working supervisory custodial lead to oversee cleaning and maintenance of a school facility and grounds. You will supervise custodians, conduct inspections for security and cleanliness, and ensure safe operation of equipment.

The role requires coordinating routine tasks and being available for emergencies in a school environment. Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED and six months of custodian experience; preferred is one

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; foreign education must be evaluated.
• Six months of experience as a custodian is required.
• Preferred: one year experience as custodian in a school system or building maintenance.
• Willingness to operate cleaning equipment and perform ground maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and direct routine building and grounds maintenance including cleaning, snow removal and lawn mowing.
• Perform inspections to ensure building security and cleanliness.
• Ensure custodial staff are trained to secure building and equipment.
• Clean buildings by sweeping, dusting, mopping, scrubbing, sealing, washing surfaces, vacuuming, buffing.
• Perform ground maintenance by mowing, watering, sweeping and weeding.
• Move and store furniture and equipment.
• Remove snow and ice.
• Be available for emergency calls.
• Use safety devices and protective equipment and follow safe practices.
• Correct any hazardous conditions and report to the administrator.
• Assign and monitor custodian tasks to ensure completion.
• General building maintenance: bathrooms, windows, chalkboards, cafeteria, lights, trash.
• Open and secure building; floor maintenance; outdoor maintenance; operate cleaning and grass-cutting equipment.
