Job summary

Cleveland Museum Of Natural History is seeking a Registrar to lead risk management, ensure legal and ethical compliance, and supervise a team of collections assistants. The role oversees EMu and collections records, and coordinates loans for the permanent collection.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years in collections management and supervision, plus strong relational database experience, and a degree in a related field is preferred but not required. Salary range is $55,000–$60,000 annually.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in history, art history, museum studies or related field preferred, but not necessary, with demonstrable experience working in collections and/or preventive conservation
• 3 - 5 years of collections management experience required
• 3 - 5 years of relational database experience required
• 2+ years of supervisory experience required

Responsibilities

• Participate in the stewardship of all the Museum’s permanent collections objects
• Ensure compliance with all legal, ethical, and professional standards, including accreditation requirements, provenance research, and repatriation regulations
• Lead risk management efforts including environmental monitoring, security, disaster preparedness and response planning
• Oversee maintenance of all collections records, digital and physical
• Manage acquisition process for relevant collections and prepare collections objects for entry into permanent collection
• Provides leadership, mentorship, and professional development for collections assistants, work study students, interns and volunteers
• Performs all duties according to established museum collections, operating, safety, and environmental policies
• Contribute to creation and maintenance of the fiscal year operations budget for the collection department
• Performs other duties as assigned by the Curator of Collections and Lifelong Learning or senior management, as required
