Job summary

Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is seeking a Facilities Maintenance professional at Toledo Correctional Institution. The role involves supervising inmate/ staff, performing electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance tasks across facilities, and performing custodial and grounds duties.

The position requires formal arithmetic education, 12 months of maintenance experience, and a valid CDL if applicable.

Qualifications

• Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition and subtraction and in reading, writing and speaking common English vocabulary.
• 12 months' training or 12 months' experience in maintenance repair (e.g., basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and use of related hand and power tools and equipment).
• Valid commercial driver's license required if motor equipment is of type and size regulated by Sections 4506.01 and 4506.12 of Ohio revised code.

Responsibilities

• Serves as lead worker over inmates or other staff in semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair work.
• Performs semi-skilled and skilled maintenance repair of equipment (electrical, plumbing, carpentry, etc.).
• Performs interior custodial duties (mops, sweeps, waxes floors, washes walls/windows).
• Performs exterior grounds keeping duties and snow/ice removal.
• Inspects buildings and equipment for needed repairs or replacements.
• Operates machine tools and welding equipment for repairs to metal parts and equipment.
• Maintains tool security and inventories; assists in related job crafts as required.
• Controls/restricts inmate movement to assigned areas; conducts searches when security breach is suspected.
