Job summary

Versant Media seeks a Lead ML / AI Engineer to design and lead end-to-end ML/AI systems across vision, language, and retrieval domains. You will guide model selection, deployment, and monitoring, ensuring scalable, production-grade solutions for newsroom workflows and product integrations.

You will mentor engineers, collaborate with Product, Editorial, and Engineering teams, and establish standards for safety, performance, and cost-efficiency in a fast-paced media environment.

Qualifications

• 8–12+ years of experience in machine learning, applied AI, and distributed systems.
• Proven track record of architecting and scaling end-to-end ML systems in production.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals with Python and ML frameworks.
• Experience with large language models, retrieval systems, and generative AI in real apps.
• Experience building or contributing to shared ML platforms or reusable services.

Responsibilities

• Set the technical vision for ML/AI, aligning with newsroom priorities.
• Architect and implement end-to-end ML systems across vision, language, and retrieval domains.
• Lead model evaluation and monitoring strategies with rigorous benchmarks.
• Identify reusable AI primitives and cross-brand leverage points for scalability.
• Partner with Editorial and product leaders to embed AI into workflows and experiences.
