Job summary

MITRE Corporation is seeking a Lead Mission Modeling and Simulation Engineer to support defense mission engineering, system-of-systems analysis, and decision-support activities. You will decompose missions, define scenarios, and translate findings into actionable recommendations for government stakeholders.

The role requires cross-functional collaboration with engineers, data scientists, and government customers, plus rigorous modeling, validation, and communication of results.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree with 8+ years in Systems Engineering/OR/CS, or 6+ years with a master’s degree.
• Experience supporting defense, aerospace, or national security programs.
• Experience with operational analysis tools such as AFSIM, STK, ITASE, NGTS, STORM.
• Proficiency in C/C++, Java, Python, MATLAB, or Mathematica.
• Experience in developing physics-based modeling and simulation tools.
• Ability to analyze complex operational scenarios and system dependencies.
• Experience creating mission threads, CONOPS, and analysis reports.
• Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to work with cross-functional teams.
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance; eligibility for SCI.

Responsibilities

• Translate mission objectives and questions into measurable modeling requirements.
• Develop and maintain mission-level models for platforms, networks, threats, environments, and humans.
• Design and run simulation experiments, trade studies, and Monte Carlo analyses.
• Verify models, document assumptions, and ensure credible results.
• Communicate results via reports, dashboards, and briefings to inform decisions.
