Placements24 is seeking a Lead Microbiologist to optimize microbial fermentation for industrial biotech applications in East London. Qualifications

• PhD in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, or related field with focus on fermentation.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial microbiology or fermentation process development.
• Proven track record in optimizing microbial fermentation and scale-up.
• Strong understanding of microbial physiology, genetics, and metabolism.
• Experience with fermentation equipment and bioreactors.
• Excellent leadership and project management skills; able to publish findings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development and optimization of microbial fermentation processes for industrial applications.
• Design and execute experiments to improve microbial strain performance, yield, and productivity.
• Scale-up fermentation processes from laboratory to pilot and potentially industrial scale.
• Monitor and control fermentation parameters to ensure optimal growth and product formation.
• Develop and implement robust analytical methods for monitoring fermentation broths and products.
• Troubleshoot fermentation issues and implement effective solutions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including biochemists, engineers, and process development specialists.
• Mentor and guide junior microbiologists and technicians.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in industrial microbiology, synthetic biology, and fermentation technology.
• Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations within the laboratory and pilot plant.
