Job summary

UMass Chan Metabolomics Core Facility at UMass Chan Medical School in Worcester, MA seeks an experienced researcher to support metabolism-based studies using high-resolution LC/MS. You will lead projects, prepare samples, optimize extraction, perform LC/MS/MS analyses, and analyze data with TraceFinder, Compound Discoverer, and LipidSearch.

Collaboration and independent work are essential. The role involves method development, data interpretation, report generation, and potential participation

Qualifications

• Requires 5+ years of relevant research experience with a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences/biochemistry or 3+ years with a related master’s/PhD
• Experience analyzing small molecules using chromatography and mass spectrometry
• Familiarity with high-resolution accurate-mass spectrometers (e.g. Orbitraps)
• Strong communication and collaborative skills
• Recent bench work experience and ability to prepare research reports

Responsibilities

• Lead multiple projects with different collaborators
• Maintain LCMS instrumentation, perform weekly cleaning and calibration
• Prepare samples for metabolomics/lipidomics experiments
• Optimize extraction protocols and assist researchers with metabolite extractions
• Perform LC/MS/MS experiments for targeted and untargeted analyses
• Analyze data with TraceFinder, Compound Discoverer and LipidSearch
• Consult with researchers on experimental design and data interpretation
• Produce reports and share with collaborators
• Participate in grant writing and manuscript preparation
• Present data at group meetings or conferences
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot mass spectrometers
• Develop new methods and workflows as needed
• Maintain SOPs and supervise junior staff
• Ensure laboratory safety and EHS compliance
• General lab duties as assigned
