Job summary

Southland Industries seeks an experienced BIM Detailer/MEP Coordinator to support major construction projects. You will coordinate shop drawings, RFIs, and 3D models, and drive document control for accurate project delivery.

The role emphasizes advanced BIM, coordination across HVAC, plumbing, and piping trades, and mentoring junior detailers while aligning model development with deliverables and budgets.

Qualifications

• Requires high school or GED and 4 years of related experience, or completion of a trade apprenticeship with 2 years of field experience.
• Field Foreman/General Foreman is preferred.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to read and interpret basic construction documents.
• Current knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Piping, Sheet Metal trades and field installation methods.
• Attention to detail and ability to coordinate projects.
• Familiarity with BIM/CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD).

Responsibilities

• Assist with receiving, logging, tracking, expediting and distribution of shop drawings, RFIs, and other project documentation.
• Create advanced shop drawings for mechanical systems in major construction projects.
• Produce equipment, room layout and detail drawings.
• Maintain document control so information is retrievable and understandable.
• Support clash detection efforts to minimize errors and time.
• Provide MEP coordination and advanced 3D modelling using BIM.
• Participate in meetings with project teams and lead less experienced detailers as needed.
• Assist with design pull scheduling to align model development with deliverables.
• Assist with budget and cost accountability and potentially lead final trade coordination with the General Contractor.
