Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in Independence, MO seeks an overnight Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join the team. This role blends direct patient care with leadership, guiding staff to ensure safe, effective, patient-centered care in a high-acuity setting.

The hospital opened its grounds with interests in serving children, adults, and seniors with inpatient behavioral health needs, featuring modern facilities and a large campus.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, or related field preferred.
• Experience in behavioral health, psychiatric care, or healthcare setting.
• Current BLS/CPR certification or ability to obtain on hire.
• Ability to work 12-hour overnight shifts.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care and supervision in a behavioral health setting
• Act as a shift resource for MHT staff, offering guidance and support as needed
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment at all times
• Conduct routine patient safety checks and observations
• Support patients with daily living activities as appropriate
• Respond appropriately to situations and behavioral escalations

Responsibilities

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital in the area of Independence, MO and we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) to join our overnight team. This role combines direct patient care with some leadership responsibilities, serving as a resource to staff and ensuring the delivery of safe, effective, and patient-centered care. The ideal candidate is a dependable team player with strong behavioral health experience who can lead by example in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.

The name Three Trails was selected to honor the historical significance of the city of Independence as the starting point for the Santa Fe, Oregon and California Trails. The logo icon is a compass, which is symbolic of wayfinding, and metaphorically the personal journey to recovery.

The Groundbreaking for the new hospital was held in January 2025. Beam topping was held in July 2025. The facility is expected to open in the second half of 2026.

The Lead Mental Health Technician (MHT) will:

• Provide direct patient care and supervision in a behavioral health setting
• Act as a shift resource for MHT staff, offering guidance and support as needed
• Maintain a safe, structured, and therapeutic environment at all times
• Conduct routine patient safety checks and observations
• Support patients with daily living activities as appropriate
• Respond appropriately to situations and behavioral escalations
• Collaborate with nursing and clinical staff to support patient care plans.

Three Trails Behavioral Hospital will:

• Serve children and adolescents, adults and seniors with innovative and evidence-based inpatient behavioral healthcare focused on individual needs and comfort.
• Create more than 200 new, full-time jobs including nurses, clinicians, therapists, technicians and administrative staff, when the facility is fully operational.
• Be located at the intersection of I-70 and Little Blue Parkway, adjacent to the Children’s Mercy Hospital Outpatient Clinics.
• Feature 120 licensed beds ready to meet the mental health needs of the surrounding community.
• Span more than 88,000 square feet, and will include an activity yard and gym.
