Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham, AL, seeks a Medical Laboratory Technologist to perform, verify, and report results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances.

The role includes assisting with evaluating new instruments, quality control, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance, plus assisting with apheresis and bone marrow tasks and coordinating educational sessions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or related field with NAACLS/ASCP or AMT credentials.
• Completion of a 12-month Medical Technology internship; degree within 9 months for students.
• ASCP or AMT certification within 15 months from date of hire; BLS may be required within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Perform, check accuracy and report results of routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids and other substances.
• Assist supervisor with evaluating new instruments, QC information, troubleshooting and equipment maintenance.
• Assist team lead with apheresis procedures, bone marrow work, coordinating educational sessions and related quality control activities.
