Job Summary and Qualifications

The Lead Medical Technologist at BSMC performs blood collection, testing, data entry, and supports laboratory operations under supervision. Proficiency in Hematology, Chemistry, Microbiology, or Immunohematology (Blood Bank) is required.

Key responsibilities include:

• Adhering to schedules and providing coverage in assigned areas, adapting to workflow changes.
• Proper use and inventory of reagents and supplies, including initial and date labeling of reagents.
• Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
• Addressing issues promptly and communicating effectively with management and staff.
• Performing venipuncture and capillary sticks on patients of all ages.
• Troubleshooting instrument issues and notifying nursing units of delays.
• Managing workload, including specimen reconciliation, reducing turnaround time, and assisting nursing staff.
• Conducting timely employee evaluations.
• Following protocols for critical values, delta checks, and test reconciliation.
• Ensuring accuracy in test performance and reporting, even during downtime.
• Maintaining competency in technical procedures and assisting with Bone Marrow procedures.
• Performing tests, troubleshooting, and documenting quality control per SOPs.
• Prioritizing tests, including STAT procedures, and operating instruments proficiently.
• Promoting teamwork and respecting colleagues and management.
• Properly identifying patients and specimens using two identifiers.
• Recording equipment temperature checks and participating in proficiency testing.

Qualifications:

• Preferably one year of laboratory sciences experience.
• Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree within 60 months of employment start.
• MLT or Medical Lab Scientist certification within 60 months of employment start.
