Job summary

Huntsville Hospital Health System is seeking a Medical Laboratory Technician to perform routine and specialized tests on blood and body fluids under supervision. You will ensure accuracy via quality control, maintain instrument checks, and manage records for regulatory compliance.

The role includes teaching staff and students, collecting urine drug screen chain of custody, and assisting across lab areas to support patient care.

Qualifications

AS degree preferred and accredited
Degree in Medical Laboratory Science or biology/chemistry
Laboratory training through accredited school preferred
Education and training equivalent to an Associates degree in lab science
60 semester hours with chemistry/biology/lab tech courses + experience
High school graduate with 50-week military medical lab procedures course
Documented evidence to perform waived testing

Responsibilities

Performs routine and specialized moderate/high complexity lab tests on blood and body fluids under minimal supervision.
Adheres to a strict quality control program to ensure accurate test results.
Performs instrument function checks and preventive maintenance as per policy.
Maintains records and statistics per regulatory requirements.
Teaches new employees and students laboratory policies and procedures.
Collects chain of custody urine drug screens as required.
Assists in all lab areas to support appropriate patient care.
