Job summary

Summa Health Akron City campus is seeking a Sr. Medical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist for the Critical Care Lab. This role supports supervision, technical guidance, and staff training while maintaining regulatory compliance and service focus.

The candidate will hold a BS in a listed science, ASCP/AMT certification, and 2+ years MT/MLS experience (or 5+ years MLT). Strong communication, problem-solving, and documentation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Biology, Chemistry, MLS or CLS with appropriate transcripts.
• 60 credit hours with specified science/MLS coursework or equivalent.
• ABHES/CAHEA-approved clinical lab training or Summa Lab Tech 1 program.
• ASCP/AMT MT, MLS or MLT certification from ASCP or AMT.
• MT/MLS: minimum 2 years of lab experience; MLT: minimum 5 years.
• Ability to follow detailed lab procedures and use lab equipment.
• Minimum 12 continuing education credits per calendar year.

Responsibilities

• Assist Supervisor/Manager with daily organization and supervision of work activities.
• Provide technical assistance to managers and staff and train/assess staff competency.
• Facilitate communication between shifts, sections, and hospital departments.
• Ensure day-to-day operations are carried out professionally and service-focused.
• Assume Supervisor/Manager duties in their absence.
• Ensure compliance with CAP, FDA, CMS (CLIA), TJC and AABB requirements.
