Job summary

Peak Vista Community Health Centers in Colorado Springs seeks a Lead Medical Assistant to provide administrative support and lead designated staff. The role includes direct patient care under a licensed provider, and leadership responsibilities within ambulatory clinics.

The ideal candidate has 2–3 years as a Medical Assistant, supervisory experience preferred, and may include Spanish bilingual capabilities.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; an associate degree in health-related field or business is preferred.
  • 2–3 years as a Medical Assistant required; supervisory experience preferred; medical office experience strongly preferred.
  • Spanish bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct support for patient care under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider; lead responsibilities as applicable.
  • Supervises day-to-day operations of designated clinical staff as a member of the health center leadership team.
  • Schedules staff and monitors time and attendance; assists in onboarding new employees.
  • Supports vaccine program and inventory management; orders materials within budget guidance.
  • Ensures patient and staff safety and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

Job description

Peak Vista Community Health Centers is a nonprofit health care organization whose mission is to provide exceptional health care to people facing access barriers through clinical programs and education. We provide integrated health care services including medical, dental, and behavioral health through our 21 outpatient health centers. We deliver care with our strong "Hospitality" culture. Our organization has over 750 employees and serves more than 74,300 patients annually in the Pikes Peak and East Central regions of Colorado. Our service area covers 14 counties, from the front range to the Kansas border, with locations throughout Colorado Springs, Fountain, Flagler, Divide, Limon, and Strasburg. Peak Vista is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC).

Compensation (Pay): $23.64 to $34.28/hourly, based on experience.

A $1000 sign on bonus will be paid in the following manner: $300 payout upon 30 days of employment, $300 payout upon 90 days of employment, and $400 payout upon one year of employment*.

*Current employees are not eligible for the sign on bonus.

Loyalty Bonus - $1200 upon 1 year of service and then a $300 payout for every additional 3 months worked. This applies to only FT employees. The amount will be prorated for PT employees.

Summary

The Lead Medical Assistant provides administrative support, and leadership guidance for all designated staff, as assigned. Assists in the execution of all routine clinical and administrative duties and functions in the delivery of patient care. Observes and verifies competency of Medical Assistant staff ensuring quality care and exceptional service is provided to the patient, as applicable. Adheres to all Peak Vista policies and procedures and applicable regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provides direct support for patient care to perform routine and acute clinical functions, pertinent to efficient ambulatory patient care, under the direction of a licensed healthcare provider; Lead responsibilities allocated as applicable and within operational requirements
  • Assists in the supervision of the day-to-day operations of assigned clinical staff as a member of the health center leadership team
  • Promotes and participates in the development of team-based care to ensure all delivery platforms support a patient-centric approach
  • Schedules designated staff; assists in the monitoring of time and attendance
  • Ability to precept staff and externs, and on-board new employees, as required
  • Updates appropriate training databases, ensuring monthly competencies are completed in a timely manner
  • Serves as the liaison between designated support staff and clinic leadership
  • Possesses the knowledge of key operating systems and standard operating procedures within the health centers, while ensuring staff and health center adherence
  • Assists vaccine program support and inventory management for all immunizations, as required
  • Orders appropriate materials and supplies in line with budgetary guidance
  • Supports Process Improvement/Quality Improvement activities in coordination with Quality Assurance Team and immediate supervisor
  • Ensures patient and employee safety, and satisfaction, while addressing patient and staff concerns and critical organizational reporting, in a timely manner, in support of the provider-patient relationship
  • Possesses interpersonal and professional communication skills and abilities in conjunction with emotional intelligence

Registered/Certified Medical Assistant; BLS certification
