Job summary

University of Maryland Faculty Physicians is seeking a Lead Medical Assistant to support providers, oversee a clinical team, and drive efficient patient care. The role blends advanced clinical duties with administrative leadership, training, quality oversight, and operational support to ensure a consistently excellent patient experience.

The Lead Medical Assistant will coordinate patient intake, assist with examinations and ENT procedures, manage discharge instructions, and serve as a resource

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; medical assistant certification preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a medical office or clinical setting preferred.
  • ENT experience strongly preferred.
  • Previous leadership, preceptor, or lead experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with EMR systems and patient communication tools.
  • Basic understanding of medical terminology and clinical workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Escort patients to exam rooms and perform accurate patient intake, including vital signs and medical histories (HPI, medications, surgical history, allergies).
  • Prepare patients for examinations and assist providers during visits and procedures.
  • Assist with ENT procedures under physician supervision, including ear tube placement, nasal cauterization, biopsies, inner ear injections, and in-office sinus procedures.
  • Provide patients with discharge instructions, medications, and educational materials.
  • Respond to patient messages, manage patient portal communications, and assist with appointment scheduling.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, equipment, and clinical work areas.

Job description

The Lead Medical Assistant supports providers and oversees the daily workflow of the medical assistant team to ensure efficient, high-quality patient care. This role combines advanced clinical and administrative responsibilities with team leadership, training, quality oversight, and operational support. The Lead Medical Assistant serves as a resource for staff, promotes workflow consistency, and helps maintain an excellent patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms and perform accurate patient intake, including vital signs and medical histories (HPI, medications, surgical history, allergies).

Total Rewards

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of Specialty Care Networks’ salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate’s geographical location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/ training and other qualifications.
