Job summary

Fair Haven Community Health Care in New Haven, CT seeks a Lead Medical Assistant to act as the clinical and operational SME for Medical Assistants. You will partner with clinicians and nursing leadership to promote standardized practice and support delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care aligned with FHCHC’s mission.

The role requires 3+ years of Medical Assistant experience with a diploma or MA certification and BLS.

Qualifications

• Three (3) or more years of Medical Assistant experience with a Medical Assistant program (diploma) from an accredited school or be certified as a medical assistant.
• Basic Life Support Certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under a clinician.
• Model efficient rooming, documentation, specimen collection, and patient flow.
• Serve as clinical SME for Medical Assistant workflows.
• Lead departmental orientation for newly hired Medical Assistants and provide competency validation.
• Mentor staff and support onboarding and education.
• Support readiness for regulatory surveys and quality audits.

Job purpose

The Lead Medical Assistant serves as the clinical and operational subject matter expert for Medical Assistants, partnering with clinicians and nursing leadership to promote standardized practice and support the delivery of high quality, cost effective, patient centered care that is consistent with Fair Haven Community Health Center's mission, values, and policies.

Duties and responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care while assigned to a clinician and perform all Medical Assistant dutiesin accordance withorganizational policies and standing orders.
• Model efficient rooming, documentation, specimen collection, and patient flow.
• Serve as the clinical subject matter expert for Medical Assistant workflows.
• Act as the primary resource for workflow questions and operational guidance.
• Partner with Nurse Managers to reinforce standardized workflows.
• Providereal timecoaching and mentoring.
• Assistwith implementation of clinical initiatives and workflow changes.
• Support interviewing and onboarding when requested.
• Lead departmental orientation for newly hired Medical Assistants and provide competency validation and ongoing education.
• Serve as the designated preceptor for Medical Assistant students and new hires and partner with the Nurse Educator toidentifyeducational opportunities.
• Monitor adherence toestablishedworkflows and policies.
• Participate in quality audits and process improvement projects.
• Identifyworkflow barriers and recommend solutions.
• Promote infection prevention, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.
• Support readiness for regulatory and accreditation surveys.
• Partner with clinicians, nursing leadership, operations, and ancillary departments to align people strategies with clinical and operational priorities, fostering collaboration, workforce effectiveness, employee engagement and high-quality patient care outcomes.
• Participate in pod huddles,department meetings, and organizational initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and organizational priorities.

Qualifications
