Job description

Division: Capstone Family Physicians, a department ofMedical Network of Alaska

Medical Network of Alaska delivers leadership, support, and guidance to healthcare facilities of all sizes across multiple specialists with the primary goal of providing accessibility, value, and quality medical administrative support services.

Summary:

The lead Medical Assistant supports the providers by overseeing clinical workflows, assisting with patient care, and coordinating administrative duties to ensure efficient operations and exceptional patient experience.

Duties and Responsibilities:

· Greet and room patients, collect medical history, and document current medications and concerns

· Measure and record vital signs, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, weight, and height

· Prepare examination rooms for OB/GYN procedures, ensuring cleanliness and proper setup

· Assist providers during routine gynecological exams, prenatal visits, pap smears, IUD insertions/removals, biopsies, and other procedures

· Provide appropriate draping and patient comfort during sensitive exams and treatments

· Perform phlebotomy, collect and process lab specimens (e.g., urine pregnancy tests, cultures, bloodwork), and conduct routine diagnostic testing

· Call patients with lab and test results as directed by the provider

· Administer injections (e.g., vaccines, Depo-Provera) and provide patient education as needed

· Operate medical equipment such as fetal Dopplers, EKGs, and autoclaves

· Schedule follow-up appointments, ultrasounds, and referrals to other specialists or imaging centers

· Maintain accurate and up-to-date electronic medical records (EMR)

· Complete insurance forms, obtain prior authorizations, and support patient check-in/out processes when needed

· Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies and materials

· Clean and sterilize instruments and equipment following infection control guidelines

Provide compassionate and respectful care, especially during sensitive or emotional situations

Other duties may be assigned as necessary to support business needs.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinates and establishes new and post-hire training(s)

Interviews prospective employees and chooses the best applicant based on skills, knowledge, and abilities required for the job.

Directs assigned tasks and helps as needed.

Assists or conducts performance evaluations or issues.

Assists or conducts approval, denial, and corrections of timecards, including PTO requests.

What You Need for This Job:

· High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)

· One year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combinations of education and experience.

· Must reside in or near Wasilla, Alaska.

· Have general knowledge of EMR software and Outlook Programs

· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operations and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

· Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

· Ability to regularly stand, walk, use hands, or feel and talk and hear. Ability to occasionally sit, reach with hands and arms; stoop; kneel; crouch, or crawl.

· Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.

· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
