Job summary

Insight Global seeks a Lead Mechanical Systems Engineer to support FAA certification and ODA-driven programs in the Airborne Systems organization. You will lead mechanical engineering activities for aircraft modification and integration, acting as a focal point across engineering disciplines.

The role requires extensive FAA-related experience, DER familiarity, and leadership across multiple programs, including military and special mission aircraft modifications.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or related field.
• 9+ years of mechanical engineering experience supporting aircraft systems.
• Experience with FAA regulations, certification processes, and compliance documentation.
• DER experience or close support of DER activities.
• Experience leading multi-stakeholder technical efforts.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical systems engineering for aircraft modification, integration, and certification programs.
• Serve as technical focal point for mechanical systems across the lifecycle.
• Support FAA certification through interaction with FAA representatives and DER personnel.
• Develop, review, and approve engineering data packages, certification documentation, and compliance reports.
• Coordinate across multidisciplinary teams including systems engineering, structures, avionics, electrical, manufacturing, and flight test.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
• Support airworthiness activities, design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering change implementations.
• Evaluate mechanical system designs for FAA compliance and customer specs.
• Participate in aircraft integration, test, troubleshooting, and verification activities.
• Support military and special mission aircraft programs meeting commercial and military standards.
• Contribute to STCs, Type Certification, or Military Flight Releases; lead complex aerospace programs.
