Job summary

Matrix Project Services in Houston, TX seeks an Estimator to lead and support project estimates for Construction, EPC and Bid builds. You will manage take-offs, consolidate estimates, and ensure pricing aligns with COA and WBS, coordinating with vendors and project teams.

The role requires experience in mechanical, piping, and facility estimates, strong communication, and the ability to handle multiple projects in a fast-paced industrial environment. Full-time position with benefits.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Construction, or Engineering or related field, or equivalent combination of education/experience in lieu of degree.
• 4 years of field and/or office experience including experience as an Estimator, Project Controls, Superintendent, General Foreman or a Field Engineer involved with estimating or cost monitoring.
• Familiar with construction work and terminology.
• Must have a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to quickly visualize the finished product from the drawings and other documents provided.
• Ability to prioritize and work on multiple projects and capable of working independently.
• Good verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to make clear and concise presentations to management.
• Strong understanding of the operating process at the facilities being estimated such as refineries, terminals, power plants, mining or other industrial facilities.
• Solid technical skills with an understanding of the various classifications of estimates.
• Self-motivated enthusiastic team player willing to work/mentor with others and adopt new ideas and methods.
• Good computer skills including an operating knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
• Familiarity with Sage estimating, project scheduling software (MS Project or Primavera) and databases.
• This position may require occasional travel and extended workdays.

Responsibilities

• Leads and/or supports estimating processes from start to finish.
• Leads and/or supports the estimating team assigned for proposals and assures the quality and accuracy of each team member’s work.
• Assures that estimates follow the Chart of Accounts (COA) structure and develops estimate Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) to meet standards.
• Discerns take-off elements of the work accurately and assigns them to the appropriate items in the database.
• Demonstrates an understanding of the Proposal and Project Life Cycle processes and develops contingencies.
• Ensures that Scope and engineering deliverables align with range of estimate standards, accuracy and are used to prepare the consolidated estimate.
• Perform detailed reviews with vendors to ensure pricing is comprehensive and compliant.
• Assist in the solicitation of subcontract and vendor proposals, evaluating for completeness and compliance.
• Identifies deficiencies in the drawings and generates pricing and qualifications to address variances.
• Develops quantity-based estimates from partial information.
• Develops piping estimates based on partial information, including pipe take-offs from Plot plans and P&ID.
• Develops mechanical estimates based on equipment lists, specifications, plot plans, SWO and RFQ, and other partial information.
• Organizes the estimate to meet project needs and enables traceability to defining documents.
• Participates in constructability reviews and cost-saving discussions for constructability assessments.
