Job summary

MatX, Mountain View, CA, is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Lead to own the mechanical design, thermal architecture, and system integration of our rack-scale AI platform. This hands-on leadership role will drive the mechanical design of AI compute trays, rack systems, and liquid-cooled infrastructure, collaborating with hardware, thermal, electrical, and ODM partners.

Qualifications

• 15+ years of mechanical engineering experience in server, data center, or AI compute hardware.
• Experience leading mechanical teams to design rack-scale hardware.
• Experience in DFMA and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with liquid cooling design and qualification.
• Experience with open rack standards (OCP ORV3/ORW).

Responsibilities

• Own mechanical design of AI compute trays, rack enclosures and full rack-scale systems from concept through production.
• Lead 3D models and 2D drawings, run tolerance analyses and define IQC/IPQC/OQC criteria.
• Own rack-level integration and packaging design, partnering with JDM/ODM.
• Lead liquid cooling design, cold plates, manifolds and CDU interfaces.
• Champion DFM/DFA practices and guide reliability testing and failure analysis.
• Coordinate with JDM/ODM for DFM/qualification and BOM ownership.
• Ensure designs meet OCP, ASHRAE, IEC standards and mentor the mechanical/thermal team.
