Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Mechanical Designer in Derwent, OH to lead mechanical design efforts across natural gas, hydrocarbon, and industrial projects. You will develop conceptual designs, produce 2D/3D drawings, and ensure compliance with codes and client specs under an engineering lead.

The role requires a strong background in AutoCAD and CADWorx, with familiarity in pipelines, compressor stations, and FEED studies. Office-based, on-site position with a collaborative engineering team.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree or certificate in CAD, Drafting, or Design.
• 10 years of experience using AutoCAD and CADWorx for oil and gas mechanical design.
• Hands-on experience with mechanical design for natural gas and hydrocarbon projects.
• Strong knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations for the oil and gas industry.
• Knowledge of mechanical materials and equipment used in oil and gas facilities.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, schematics, and specs with high accuracy.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and CADWorx for detailed models and drawings.
• Proficiency in Excel, Teams, and Word for documentation and collaboration.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration.
• Ability to work in a team or independently.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and manage mechanical design team members and assign projects.
• Monitor design activities and ensure timely, accurate delivery.
• Create conceptual mechanical designs for oil, gas, and industrial projects.
• Produce detailed 2D/3D drawings including BOMs and isometrics.
• Assist engineers with FEED studies for oil, gas, and pipeline projects.
• Coach and train junior designers and drafters.
• Ensure compliance with internal standards and client specifications.
• Resolve complex mechanical design issues with materials and equipment.
• Coordinate with managers, engineers, and designers across disciplines.
• Review and approve timecards to support project tracking.
• Assist in interviewing new drafting hires.
