Job summary

Southland Industries in Virginia seeks a Designer to design building systems, including fire protection, plumbing, HVAC and mechanical disciplines.

You will prepare calculations, drawings, and specs for large-scale projects, oversee lifecycle from layout to as-builts, support change orders, provide guidance to junior staff, and help ensure quality and schedule compliance across teams.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years of experience in construction engineering design.
• NICET Level II Certification for Fire Protection preferred.
• Knowledge of zone layout and design principles, including drawings, calculations, submittals.
• Proficient in AutoSprink, AutoCad, NAVIS and REVIT.
• Strong communication and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Prepare complex calculations, drawings, and specifications for large-scale design projects.
• Oversee lifecycle of large projects, including layout, permit procurement, field surveys, coordination, fabrication lists, RFIs, as-builts, and submissions.
• Supports change order processes by providing accurate and timely project information.
• Provides technical guidance to less experienced team members, responds to team and field inquiries, and ensures quality, documentation accuracy, and schedule compliance.
• Monitors project design budgets and collaborates across teams to support project execution.
