Job summary

Orion Placement is seeking a senior Mechanical Designer for an on-site Springfield, MA role. You will lead mechanical design efforts for commercial projects, work closely with customers, and develop solutions using AutoCAD MEP and Revit.

The position requires strong experience in mechanical contracting, collaboration with estimators and vendors, and a drive to deliver high-quality, buildable designs that meet budgets and schedules.

Qualifications

• 6+ years of mechanical design experience within a mechanical contracting environment.
• Strong customer-facing skills and ability to participate in estimating and preconstruction.
• Experience coordinating with subcontractors and vendors for pricing.
• Proficient in AutoCAD MEP and Revit design workflows.
• Knowledge of commercial mechanical systems and construction practices.
• Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead mechanical design efforts for commercial building and mechanical contracting projects.
• Work directly with customers to understand project requirements and develop solutions aligned with their goals.
• Create and coordinate mechanical designs using AutoCAD MEP and Revit.
• Develop HVAC, piping, plumbing, and related mechanical system designs as applicable.
• Review drawings, specifications, layouts, and project requirements for accuracy and constructability.
• Collaborate with project management, estimating, engineering, and field teams throughout project development.
• Participate in estimating and preconstruction activities for assigned projects.Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to obtain pricing and quotations for project bids.
• Identify value engineering opportunities and practical design solutions that improve project outcomes.
• Provide design leadership while helping ensure projects meet customer expectations, budgets, and schedules.

Note

Candidates must have 6+ years of mechanical design experience within a mechanical contracting environment, along with AutoCAD MEP and/or Revit experience. Strong customer-facing skills and willingness to participate in project estimating and vendor/subcontractor quote coordination are essential.
