Job summary

Dassel's Petroleum in Hollister, CA, is seeking a skilled diesel mechanic to diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty trucks and equipment. You’ll split time between a repair shop and field work, tackling engine, electrical, brake, and hydraulic issues while documenting work and adhering to safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing heavy-duty diesel trucks.
• Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems independently.
• Strong understanding of safety practices in shop and roadside environments.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy-duty diesel trucks and equipment (engine, transmission, electrical, brake, hydraulic).
• Use diagnostic tools to identify root causes and complete repairs efficiently.
• Perform preventative maintenance to reduce breakdowns and extend vehicle life.
• Respond to roadside service calls, including emergency repairs in real-world conditions.
• Inspect vehicles for safety and regulatory compliance.
• Accurately document repairs, inspections, and parts used.
• Follow safety protocols, including PPE and proper handling of equipment and materials.
• Communicate clearly with the team about repair status and delays.
• Maintain and manage your personal toolset for the role.
• Participate in on-call rotation and overtime as needed.
