Job summary

City of Sioux Falls seeks a working lead mechanic to coordinate, repair, maintain, and overhaul gasoline- and/diesel-powered automotive and heavy equipment for City departments. You will schedule, assign, and direct repair work to mechanic staff and provide technical assistance for skilled mechanical duties.

Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, 2 years of related training, 6 years in automotive maintenance with 3 at journeyman level, CDL Class B with tanker endorsement,

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus 2 years of related education or vocational training and 6 years in automotive/truck maintenance, 3 at journeyman level.
• Willing to work a varied schedule for a 24/7 operation.
• Must obtain Class B CDL with tanker endorsement within 90 days.
• Must obtain ASE Master Certification within 18 months.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and direct equipment repair work for mechanic staff.
• Evaluate, analyze, and test automotive systems to determine repairs and estimate labor.
• Perform repairs and overhauls on a wide range of vehicles and heavy equipment.
• Maintain records of parts used and repairs performed; keep tools and equipment safe and clean.
• Assist in purchasing parts and materials and in budget data preparation.
