Job summary

Cemex is seeking a Lead Mechanic in Decatur, AL to maintain and repair a range of mobile equipment, both in shop and on site. The role emphasizes maximizing equipment availability through proactive repairs and preventive programs, while coordinating priorities with Terminal Operations.

You will lead maintenance activities, supervise shop performance, and ensure adherence to safety standards. This position requires strong English communication and a proactive, team-oriented mindset.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Must have own tools up to 1 inch.
• Bilingual is a plus; must read, write, and communicate in English.
• Demonstrates professionalism with strong business acumen.
• Shows leadership and motivates teammates.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose electrical problems and perform mechanical repairs on trailers, Moffetts, tires, brakes, suspension.
• Operate and inspect equipment to identify defects.
• Troubleshoot hydraulics, electronics, and other truck/trailer components.
• Remove parts for repair or replacement (injectors, starters, water pumps, radiators, brakes).
• Perform routine preventative maintenance and lubrication.
• Inspect brakes on commercial vehicles per Federal DOT requirements.
• Create work orders and purchase requisitions for repairs.
• Input daily repair reports into a tracking system.
• Coordinate Pre-Trip inspections review with team.
• Utilize hand tools, power tools, torches, and welding equipment.
