Job summary

Herc Rentals is seeking a Mechanic A in Summerville, SC to lead fleet maintenance and mentor junior mechanics. The role emphasizes safe, professional preventative and corrective work to keep equipment rental-ready.

You will diagnose engines, hydraulics, and electrical systems, perform major repairs, and help manage work orders, with weekly pay and comprehensive benefits including 401(k) match and stock purchase options.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 3 years of experience repairing heavy equipment.
• Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
• Owns a sufficient selection of hand and air/electric tools to perform repairs.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain a consistent preventive maintenance schedule for all Herc owned fleet at the branch.
• Operate and test equipment to ensure it meets quality standards.
• Perform routine maintenance and repairs on fleet equipment and trucks.
• Diagnose engines, electrical systems, hydraulics, and fuel systems.
• Conduct major repairs using diagnostic tools and instruments.
• Perform oil changes, lubrication, tire replacements, and hose/battery work.
• Assist shop lead with damage estimates and repairs.
• Enter and review work orders and order parts via fleet system.
• Recondition and replace parts on heavy equipment.
• Diagnose wear and issues affecting equipment performance.
• Take calls and dispatch Field Service Mechanic as needed.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and produce detailed reports.
