SUMMARY : Assists the Fleet Maintenance Manager in the daily operation of the Fleet Maintenance Facility while performing the duties of a Journeyman-level front-line mechanic.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Performs all front-line mechanic maintenance activities assigned by the Fleet Manager.
- Rotates on-call duties with the Fleet Manager.
- Schedules employees and ensures the quality of work meets department standards and is completed as scheduled.
- Provides input to the Fleet Manager for employee evaluations and progress reports.
- Ensures cost-effectiveness of all fleet maintenance programs.
- Assists the Fleet Manager in developing new maintenance programs.
- Mantains a safe and clean work environment.
- Assists in training technicians.
- Maintains required vehicle records, including data entry and parts ordering.
- Responds to vehicle breakdowns in the field when requested.
- Assists other mechanics as needed.
- Operates company vehicles according to company policy and safety practices.
- Completes all required paperwork accurately and on time.
- Uses parts computer programs to locate needed parts and verify correct applications.
- Attends meetings, training sessions, and classes as directed by the Fleet Manager.
- Performs other duties as requested by the Fleet Maintenance Manager.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES :
- Vehicles are repaired and maintained correctly and promptly.
- Responds quickly, diagnoses, and repairs vehicles during road call situations.
- Maintains a safe and clean work area.
- Ensures paperwork is complete and neat.
- Accurately accounts for all parts and materials used.
- Maintains good working relationships with personnel and conducts oneself professionally with outside contacts.
SAFETY :
- Practices safe work habits and takes responsibility for safety.
- Follows organizational and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Identifies and reports safety concerns.
- Adheres to fleet policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL EQUIPMENT USED :
- Telephone, cell phone, pager.
- Personal hand tools.
- Vehicle shop equipment including vehicle hoist, diagnostic scan tools (IDS, Snap-On or equivalent), brake lathe, A/C recovery/recycle machine, pneumatic air tools, and hand tools.
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Discretion and confidentiality in sensitive areas.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow instructions and repair manuals.
- Ability to perform essential job functions.
- Regular and predictable attendance.
- Skills in maintenance and repairs on company vehicles.
- Electrical diagnosis experience with ability to read schematics.
- Must have a full set of personal tools.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Journeyman level experience.
- Fleet maintenance background preferred.
- ASE certifications (A1-A8, including Brake certification) or equivalent.
- ASE 609 or equivalent certification mandatory.
