Cooper Machinery Services in Deer Park, TX is seeking a Lead Mechanic with deep experience in disassembly and assembly of natural gas engine and compressor equipment. You will oversee daily shop activities, mentor mechanics, and act as the technical resource for complex repairs.

The role requires 10+ years in heavy equipment repair, ability to read drawings and specs, and certification to operate forklifts and overhead cranes. You will ensure safety, quality, and documentation across projects.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
• Ability to interpret drawings, prints, and engineering specifications for complex disassembly/reassembly.
• Forklift license and overhead crane certification.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in extreme heat.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Provide daily oversight of shop activities, coordinating workflow to keep work safe, efficient, and on spec.
• Train and mentor mechanics at all levels, building technical capability and craftsmanship across the team.
• Serve as the shop's technical resource, demonstrating best practices and proper use of specialized tools.
• Apply advanced troubleshooting skills to diagnose, repair, and restore complex natural gas engine and compressor components.
• Perform disassembly, inspection, reassembly, testing, and painting of highly complex equipment using manual, pneumatic, and hydraulic tools.
• Conduct and document risk assessments before operations and material moves, including safe use of cranes and lift trucks.
• Complete accurate documentation for routers, inspection reports, and test results.
• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams on root-cause investigations and process improvements.
• Identify, report, and resolve problems or hazardous conditions during equipment disassembly, assembly, and testing.

We're looking for a Lead Mechanic at our Deer Park shop who's spent a career mastering that craft and is ready to pass it on. This is a role for someone who can run a floor as confidently as they run a torque wrench: setting the standard for quality and safety, mentoring the next generation of mechanics, and serving as the go‑to expert when a repair gets complicated. WHAT YOU WILL DO

WHO YOU ARE

• High School Diploma or GED from an accredited school or institution.
• 10+ years of experience in mechanical test and assembly/disassembly or heavy equipment repair and maintenance.
• Skilled at interpreting drawings, prints, and engineering specifications to perform complex disassembly and reassembly.
• Forklift operator license (or ability to obtain one) and certification to operate overhead cranes.
• Comfortable operating pneumatic and hydraulic torque tools.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical work — pushing, pulling, bending, and standing for extended periods, including in extreme heat.
• Willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as required.
• Valid driver's license.

PREFERRED

• 8+ years of experience in operations, service center applications, or related operational roles.
• Strong knowledge of natural gas engine and compressor cylinder equipment.
• Proven ability to work undirected against engineering specifications, inspecting your own work for quality.
• Experience setting up and running hydro pressure and functional tests on sub-assemblies and final assemblies.
• Prior manufacturing or shop/service center operations experience.
